Job summary

Airgas in Rockford, IL is hiring a Plant Operator to safely operate equipment for handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, both high pressure and liquid. You will load/unload cylinders, move them with carts and forklifts, and ensure proper labeling and safety procedures.

The role requires awareness of hazards, ability to read cylinder labels, and adherence to government and Airgas standards. A HS diploma is preferred, with experience in manufacturing or loading considered a plus.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in manufacturing, filling or loading is a plus.
• Familiarity with gas, welding, safety supply, or chemical industry valued.
• Excellent verbal and written communication to ensure team alignment.
• Able to read MSDS to maintain a safe environment.
• Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment safely for handling/producing packaged gas cylinders (high pressure and liquid).
• Load/unload cylinders and move with carts and forklift.
• Label cylinders and ensure proper color-coding; read cylinder labels.
• Prepare cylinders for filling and attach to manifolds; evacuate contaminants.
• Conduct safety checks and quality control; document per DOT/OSHA/Airgas standards.
• Assist with inventory, quantity checks, and cycle counts.
