Job Description
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Practice safety rules.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Use hand & power tools safely.
- Report to and assist the immediate supervisor.
- Perform quality work according to project specifications.
- Be accountable for all tools and materials at the end of your shift.
- Work well as part of a team.
- Measure distances from grade stakes.
- Drive stakes.
- Stretch tight line.
- Grade stacks from lumber for reuse.
- Level earth to fine grade specifications with a shovel to assist in pipe laying and preparing subgrades and excavations.
- Direct other laborers in dumping concrete into forms.
- Erect shoring and braces, and paint pipe joints with sealing compound.
- Assist in setting pumps and well-points.
- Assist heavy construction equipment operators in aligning and moving equipment such as cranes, power shovels, and backhoes, verifying grades and signaling operators to adjust machines to conform to grade specifications.
- Direct truck drivers and scraper operators to dumping positions to maintain grades as directed by the grading or dumping foreman.
- Work in a concrete paving crew, adding or removing concrete to meet the correct grade.
- Occasionally use small power tools.
- May work as a lead man in a labor crew.
- Exercise independent judgment to plan routine work, accept responsibility for multiple phases, and expedite work without detailed instructions.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Comply with the company’s drug and alcohol policy.
- Pass physical examinations as necessary.
- Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Carry up to 50 lbs. of tools or materials, with assistance recommended for heavier items.
- Work standing or walking for long periods on uneven surfaces.
- Work extended hours wearing PPE, including respirators when required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Some experience in industrial, construction, or general labor roles.
- Post-offer drug/alcohol screening and physical evaluation.
- Completion of a New Hire Quiz.
- Must not pose a health or safety threat to oneself or others.
- Adherence to site safety requirements (e.g., PPE, attire).
- Use of safety equipment as required (hard hat, glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness).
