Position Overview

The Town of Fairfield is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Gardening Camp Instructor to lead a week-long gardening camp for youth ages 12 and older. The instructor will create an engaging, hands‑on learning environment where participants explore gardening techniques, plant science, environmental stewardship, and sustainable growing practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and lead daily gardening activities, lessons, and projects.
• Teach participants about plant life cycles, soil health, composting, and garden maintenance.
• Supervise campers during all activities and ensure a safe, positive learning environment.
• Demonstrate proper use of gardening tools and safety procedures.
• Encourage teamwork, responsibility, and appreciation for nature.
• Prepare materials and maintain gardening spaces throughout the program.
• Adapt activities to accommodate varying skill and experience levels.
• Communicate effectively with program staff and parents/guardians as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching gardening, horticulture, environmental education, agriculture, or related subjects.
• Experience working with youth and leading group activities.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to create engaging, age-appropriate educational experiences.
• Knowledge of gardening techniques, plant care, and outdoor safety practices.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Physical Requirements
