Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

$47.40 Per Hour

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Overhaul transmissions.
  • Overhaul power dividers and rear ends.
  • Overhaul brakes, master cylinders, wheel cylinders vacuum boosters, air brakes, air compressors, and air chambers.
  • Must have the experience and expertise to operate drum and rotor lathe.
  • Must be experienced and able to repair the following:
    • Gasoline Engines (all types and sizes)
    • Diesel Engines (all types and sizes)
    • Propane Engines (all types and sizes)
    • Portable Air Compressors
    • Chain Saw
    • Lawn Motors (riding, push type and self propelled)
    • Portable Ditch Pumps
    • Gasoline Generators
    • Backhoes
    • Trenchers
    • Concrete saws
    • Fork Lift
  • Must be experienced and able to operate the following:
    • Engine Analyzer
    • Engine Scanner
    • Various gauges and meters used in the fleet maintenance field
  • Must be able to diagnose electrical trouble in standard, electronics, and computerized systems.
  • Must have the knowledge and experience to diagnose and repair starting and charging systems.
  • Must have the knowledge and experience to diagnose and repair air conditioning systems and be certified in 1234YF.
  • Must be proficient and experienced in welding with acetylene, arc and wire welding.
  • Must have had Field Troubleshooting experience.
  • Must change flat tires and repair tire when required, lube and oil changes.
  • Must be experienced in diagnosing and repairing aerial and hydraulic equipment such as but not limited to the following:
    • derrick diggers
    • bucket trucks
    • backhoes
    • cranes
    • trenchers
    • hydro-lifts (all types).
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Vehicle Maintenance and/or Garage Working Foreman.
  • Denotes Essential Functions of this Job.
Qualifications
Education / Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Must be a journeyman mechanic.
  • ASE certification in heavy truck maintenance is preferred.
Position Requirements (Abilities)
  • Incumbent must have a good attendance and safety record.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and regular days off as necessary.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as required by the State of Kansas for vehicle(s) operated.
  • Must be able to attend school and classes during off duty hours to keep current with new development in the mechanic field as directed.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

Prerequisite Skills

Incumbent must be skilled with use of various tools, materials, and equipment necessary to perform job duties.
