Job summary

Erie’s Public Schools is seeking a skilled Garage Mechanic for the Service Center. The role requires maintaining, repairing, and overhauling diesel, propane, electric and gasoline engines to keep the fleet in reliable condition.

You will operate garage equipment, read manuals, and perform related mechanic tasks in a 12-month employment cycle. The candidate should have vocational automotive training, a valid CDL with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements, a certified inspection license, and

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years' journeyman experience preferred in automotive maintenance and repair.
• Vocational/automotive training completed.
• Certified inspection license is required.
• CDL with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements.
• Knowledge of alternate fuels and fuel injection systems.
• Small engine repair experience is helpful.
• Basic computer data entry and retrieval capability.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and overhaul fleet equipment including diesel, propane, electric and gasoline engines.
• Operate garage equipment for moving and testing automotive machinery.
• Read and interpret automotive manuals and schematics.
• Perform related garage mechanic work as assigned.
• Select proper tools and materials; follow standard trade practices.
• Perform minor body work.

Position Title: Garage Mechanic

Location: Service Center

Salary: per LCL 1968 bargaining agreement

Term of Employment: 12 month position

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Supervisor of Transportation

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a journeyman preferred in all phases of automotive maintenance and repair
• Certified inspection license
• Current CDL with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements.
• Knowledge of alternate fuels
• Knowledge of fuel injection systems
• Small engine repair experience helpful
• Basic computer data entry and retrieval required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain, lubricate, repair, and overhaul fleet equipment. Diesel, propane, electric and gasoline internal combustion engines to insure efficient operating condition.
• Operate the various types of garage equipment for moving and testing automotive machinery
• Read and interpret automotive/mechanical equipment manuals and schematics
• Perform related garage mechanic work as may be assigned
• Select proper tools, determine materials to be used, accomplish work in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade and/or industrial practices
• Perform minor body work
