Job summary

Northern Door Company in White Bear Lake, MN is hiring a Garage Door Technician to own a residential service and installation route. The role offers a base wage of $25.00 to $30.00 per hour plus commissions and performance bonuses, with full-time hours and the possibility of advancement.

You will install premium door systems, diagnose issues, service openers, and work with homeowners to present repair options. A strong mechanical background and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–3 years hands-on experience with mechanical equipment or related trades.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication skills with staff and customers.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Installation: Assemble and install premium garage door systems, including tracks, torsion springs, cables, and door panels.
• Service & Repair: Diagnose mechanical issues, replace broken hardware, and perform routine maintenance and safety inspections to ensure optimal performance.
• Opener Systems: Install and program automated garage door openers (LiftMaster, Raynor), troubleshoot electrical issues, and integrate smart home/WiFi features.
• Professionalism: Communicate effectively with homeowners. Clearly present repair options (Good/Better/Best), capture signatures, and turn in clean, organized paperwork to our dispatch team.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2-3 years of hands-on experience with mechanical equipment, construction, or a related trades field (Previous garage door experience is highly preferred).
• Strong mechanical aptitude and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication skills with other staff and customers.
• Ability to safely lift heavy materials and work in various Minnesota weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
