Summit Orthopedics in the Twin Cities area seeks a full-time Orthopedic Clinical Assistant to support physicians and care teams in outpatient settings. You will room patients, record histories, prepare for evaluations, and assist with DME, casting, and splinting.

You will educate patients, schedule follow-ups, verify insurance, and maintain patient charts. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with potential to float to other Summit locations as needed to meet patient care goals.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Medicine or health-related field completed before starting gap year.
  • Willingness to commit to a full-time year.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patient flow, room patients, and record medical histories for evaluation and/or treatment.
  • Prepare required instruments and stock exam/procedure rooms between patient appointments.
  • Assist with casting, splinting, suture and staple removal, fitting and dispensing of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as directed.
  • Provide standardized patient education materials verbal or written.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and coordinate insurance and patient demographics.
  • Refill prescriptions as ordered by the physician.
  • Perform administrative duties, including manage patient charts and related paperwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

As part of a team in a clinic or Orthopedic Urgent Care Walk-in setting, the Orthopedic Clinical Assistant will provide clinical support in the provision of quality orthopedic care and treatment of patients and perform assigned administrative duties. Under supervision, and as direct support to physicians and/or other providers, clinical duties may include rooming of patients, obtaining medical history information, preparation of patient for evaluation, fitting and dispensing of durable medical equipment, casting, splinting and other assigned procedures. This role communicates with and provides information to patients and other care team providers, handles updating and managing patient records, facilitates follow-up care for patients, and assists in completing required paperwork.

We are seeking full-time gap year students to be part of an Orthopedic Clinical Assistant (OCA) program that will be based in the Twin Cities. This experience includes opportunities to meet with our physicians for additional learnings, shadow other areas of the organization, and gain invaluable experience in an orthopedic outpatient setting. Opportunities are likely to start in September or June but start times may vary as positions become available.

This is a full-time position benefit-eligible position, providing primary support to a Physician team or in a float setting. Monday - Friday schedule of 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (subject to change based on clinic and/or team needs). Location for this position have not been determined. OCAs must have flexibility to float to other Summit locations as needed to meet the needs of the patient and/or team. This position may also involve coverage at Summit outreach sites, as applicable.

Primary duties:
  • Monitor patient flow, room patients and obtain and record medical histories and prepare patient for evaluation and/or treatment.
  • Prepare required instruments and equipment for examinations. Clean and stock exam/procedure rooms, including instruments and equipment, between patient appointments.
  • Assist with casting, splinting, suture and staple removal, fitting and dispensing of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as appropriate, and as directed by provider.
  • Provide standardized patient education instructions verbal or written.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and appointments for further evaluation, testing, as needed, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Refill prescriptions on behalf of ordering physician
  • Perform administrative duties, including manage patient charts to ensure accuracy and completion, sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab and x-ray and other related reports, and completing and sending necessary paperwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Summit's hiring range for this position is $22.70 to $28.38 per hour. The hired candidate may be eligible to receive additional compensation in the form of bonuses, differentials and/or deferred compensation. Education

High School (required)

Experience

6 months of related clinical or healthcare experience (preferred)

Ability to give a one-year full time commitment (rotations starting this fall). (required)

Prior to start date, have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Medicine, Pre-Physician's Assistant, Nursing or any Health-Related field and going into a gap year and seeking real-time, hands-on experience. (required)
