Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking multiple Game Wardens to perform and assist with various duties, including law enforcement focusing on watercraft, wildlife management data collection, conflict resolution involving injured and nuisance wildlife, daily interactions with external groups and internal staff, training, and other assigned tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in research projects and wildlife surveys.
  • Provide information on wildlife education, law enforcement, and management; compile data for reports.
  • Patrol assigned areas for violations of laws.
  • Contribute to habitat development and wildlife propagation tasks.
  • Enforce laws related to hunting, fishing, trapping, and watercraft; conduct inspections and investigations; work with courts and agencies; carry law enforcement gear.
  • Collect and analyze wildlife data; assist in research and disease surveillance; help with wildlife trapping and transplants.
  • Assist with wildlife damage and conflict issues; respond to injured wildlife calls; use appropriate immobilization and euthanasia methods.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the public and other agencies; provide education and information programs.
  • Participate in law enforcement, wildlife management, conflict resolution, and other training; complete Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy requirements.

PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in wildlife-related fields or equivalent coursework, possess a valid driver's license, and be willing to undergo background checks and testing, including physical fitness assessments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field with 0-2 years of experience, or 3-5 years of relevant experience; POST certification required within one year of employment.


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work in various weather conditions.
  • Operate motorized equipment safely.
  • Handle live wildlife and perform data collection in aircraft.
  • Pass firearms and use of force qualifications.
  • Be on call; perform strenuous physical activities.
