Summary Description
Under the direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities. The teacher collaborates with general education teachers, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, and assists in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Physical demands are as required by job duties. Special requirements include attending meetings and activities outside instructional hours as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement. Teachers in special education schools or service models must complete specific MCPS courses, including behavioral management and nonviolent crisis intervention, to support behavioral interventions.

Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in special education, fluency in relevant instructional theories and assessment, student teaching or two years of relevant teaching experience, and Maryland State certification in special education are required. Certification in a content area is preferred.
