Summary Description:
Under the direction of the middle school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for adolescent students. Works with interdisciplinary teams to foster a school culture conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for every student. Supervises middle school students in various school-related settings. Communicates and collaborates with students, staff, parents, and the community. Develops, selects, and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains records, follows procedures, and uses data analysis to monitor student achievement. Ensures proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
Special Requirements: Attendance at school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of adolescent development, content expertise, and MCPS curriculum and policies. Commitment to high expectations for all learners. Ability to use diverse instructional and behavioral management strategies suitable for middle school adolescents, integrating reading, writing, math, and technology. Ability to reflect on instructional practices for continuous improvement. Effective collaboration with administrators, colleagues, staff, students, parents, and community. Excellent communication and human relations skills. A commitment to diversity and serving as a role model and advocate for young adolescents. Knowledge and application of the MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS) and Supporting Services (SEIU) Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education, Training, and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university, with knowledge of adolescent learners. Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
