Summary Description:

Under the direction of the middle school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for adolescent students. Works with interdisciplinary teams to foster a school culture conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of adolescents, ensuring success for every student. Supervises middle school students in various school-related settings. Communicates and collaborates with students, staff, parents, and the community. Develops, selects, and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains records, follows procedures, uses data analysis to monitor achievement, and ensures proper use and care of equipment and facilities.

As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Special Requirements:

Attendance at school meetings, programs, and activities outside instructional hours as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, content expertise, MCPS curriculum, and policies.
  • Commitment to high expectations for all learners.
  • Ability to use various instructional and behavioral management strategies suitable for middle school adolescents, integrating reading, writing, math, and technology.
  • Self-reflection on instructional practices for continuous improvement.
  • Effective collaboration with administrators, colleagues, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Strong communication and human relations skills.
  • Advocacy and support for diversity (race, ethnicity, gender, developmental differences, learning styles, exceptionalities).
  • Knowledge of the six performance standards of MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS) and Supporting Services (SEIU) Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education, Training, and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of education from an accredited college or university, with knowledge of adolescent learners.

Certificate/license: Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
