Position Overview

Positions in this class are assigned to local schools to assist the administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for the school community. Under the general supervision of the security team leader, the security assistant helps screen visitor access, maintains student attendance records, and performs other security-related tasks. Guidance is provided for more complex or unusual situations.

Physical Demands and Requirements

• Sufficient physical strength to intervene in fights and restrain individuals.
• Stamina for long periods of walking and standing, including outdoor patrols in various weather conditions.
• Flexibility to work hours including weekends and overtime as needed.
• Must wear designated security uniforms.

Additional Job Details

The hourly wage ranges from $23.68 to $33.72, depending on experience. Candidates must complete a screening interview with the Dept. School Safety & Security to be considered. Bilingual English/Spanish skills, knowledge of safety procedures, behavior management, investigative techniques, and strong communication skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
• Experience in safety, security, or related fields, preferably in educational settings.
• Possession of a valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver's license, or equivalent.
• First aid and CPR certification required.
