Under school administration supervision, provides leadership within the Department of Special Education (DSES) or high school programs. Acts as a liaison to DSES, supports classroom teachers with instructional planning for students with disabilities, and models instructional best practices. Participates actively in school leadership teams, analyzing student achievement data and supporting instructional strategies. Responsible for observing and analyzing teaching practices to foster professional growth and evaluation.

Attendance at school meetings, programs, and activities outside instructional hours is mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement. Teachers in special education settings must complete specific MCPS-provided courses, including behavioral management and nonviolent crisis intervention, to support students with disabilities.
Master’s degree or equivalent in special education, general education, educational administration, or related fields. Certification in a secondary content area is preferred. At least three years of successful classroom experience as a special education teacher, with a preference for two different types of special education teaching experiences. Other relevant combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certificate License: Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for an Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) in special education.
