Position: Paraprofessional - Pre-K Special Education

Location: Wilson Elementary School

Position Summary: Provides support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom, working with individual and small groups of students, and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.

Essential Duties:
  1. Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials to support classroom goals and objectives.
  2. Supports teachers by administering classroom assignments.
  3. Assists students with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts and help achieve academic goals.
  4. Communicates with teachers to evaluate progress and implement classroom objectives.
  5. Maintains classroom equipment, work areas, and records to ensure safety and compliance.
  6. Monitors students in various settings to ensure safety and positive environment.
  7. Performs clerical tasks such as laminating, copying, bulletin boards, and filing.
  8. Reports observations and incidents involving students to appropriate personnel.
  9. May assist with personal care tasks such as diaper changing, feeding, and hygiene.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
  11. Work location may vary in response to health or safety needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED, plus one of the following:
    • At least 48 college credit hours
    • Passed the OGET test
    • Passed the Education Testing Service Parapro Assessment (score 455)
    • Workkeys Assessment (score 3 or better on all parts)
  • Must obtain OSDE Paraprofessional Credential ($10 fee).
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and software.
  • Ability to perform basic math and read/write following prescribed formats.
  • Knowledge of child development, learning styles, and age-appropriate activities.
  • Ability to schedule activities, handle data, and use job-related equipment.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical ability to assist in emergency evacuations, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform necessary physical tasks.
  • Availability to work outside regular hours as needed.
Work Environment and Other Information:
  • Office duties performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
