Job summary

Vaughn Next Century Learning Center in Pacoima, CA seeks an Intervention Assistant (Paraprofessional III) for part-time support at Pandaland (PreK-1st). The role offers hourly pay between $20.00 and $37.00 and involves 195 work days with up to 29 hours per week on site.

You will co-teach with general education staff, support universal screening data, and help implement multi-tiered interventions, with duties including small-group instruction, field trips, and safety compliance.

Qualifications

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Vaughn Next Century Learning Center (“Vaughn”), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district’s low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, TK-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide effective classroom instruction by integrating the common core state ELA & Math standards appropriate to the subject matter.
• Co-teach and co-plan with general education teachers to support students struggling with grade level content
• Collaborate with curriculum coach and Lead Intervention Support to establish learning groups using universal and diagnostic screening data
• Collaborate with Teachers and Support Staff to provide multi-tiered systems of support
• Utilize different instructional strategies based on student needs
• Utilize various assessments to guide student instruction
• Monitor student progress on academic learning goals
• Facilitate small group instruction – may include afterschool lab support
• Support Lead Intervention Teacher with Section 504 data gathering and monitoring tasks
• Participate in staff development
• Assist general education staff in implementing and reinforcing classroom routines and positive behavior strategies
• Attend educational field trips as needed
• Support all students in all learning activities, including but not limited to, supervision of students during non-instructional periods
• Participate in all school emergency and safety plans
• Additional duties as assigned relative to the position

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current college enrollment if Bachelor’s degree not yet earned
• 1-year experience working with students in a school setting
• Intermediate understanding of basic office applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Basic knowledge of G-suite software, such as google drive, sheets, forms, calendar, classroom, docs, and gmail.
• Able to establish and maintain professional working relationships
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with providing intervention support to students
• Competency in secondary math curriculum including algebra and geometry concepts
• Bilingual: English/Spanish

SALARY/BENEFITS

• $20.00 - $24.00/hr. (Non-Bachelors Track), $27.00 -$31.00/hr. (Bachelors Track), $32.00-$37.00/hr (Masters/Credential Track)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Upon receiving an offer of employment:

• Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan) with the Department of Justice (DOJ)
• Must provide a Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) clearance within 60 days of employment
• Will be assigned mandated state training to be completed prior to the first day of employment
