Job summary

Long Island University in Brooklyn is seeking a part-time staff lifeguard to ensure the safety of patrons in the university aquatic facility.

You will maintain constant surveillance, provide emergency care, uphold customer service standards, and assist with pool maintenance and supplies as needed.

LIU requires enrollment in an active degree program and current American Red Cross lifeguard training with CPR/AED and First Aid.

Qualifications

  • LIU student enrolled in an active degree program.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Leadership and public relations skills.
  • Decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safety facility.
  • Keep the management well informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments and repairs.
  • Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered and communicates the needs to the director of special events. Interacts with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues.

Purpose or role of the position within the organization (Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities):
  • Ensures the safety of patrons of an aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Duties And Principal Responsibilities
