Device Engineer Responsibilities

The Device Engineer will work collaboratively with a team to design and develop medical products from initial concept through transfer to production. Responsibilities include:

  • Act as a technical lead for product development projects, providing mentoring and guidance.
  • Manage development of parts and subassemblies, interacting with Clinical and Marketing teams to determine requirements.
  • Outline and execute short-term goals to meet project milestones.
  • Design, build, and evaluate prototypes exploring various concepts.
  • Prepare and present designs at technical reviews.
  • Refine concepts with minimal guidance.
  • Evaluate materials, adhesives, and assembly techniques based on product requirements.
  • Select vendors, request quotes, and recommend production vendors.
  • Apply DFMA principles and document benefits.
  • Plan and document verification testing, coordinate with team members.
  • Develop assembly procedures and assist in transfer to manufacturing.
  • Document ECO changes and coordinate design tasks within the team.
  • Resolve design conflicts proactively.
Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical, Software, Electrical Engineering or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years product design and development experience; ten preferred.
  • Experience in medical devices, especially class II, preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and lead technically.
  • Proficiency in modern prototyping and manufacturing methods.
  • Strong project management and team collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Additional Requirements

Compliance with FDA’s QSR, ISO13485, Canadian Medical Device Regulations, and other international standards.
