We are seeking experienced Underwriters passionate about their work, with non-platform underwriting experience in classes such as construction, hospitality, real estate, and manufacturing.

Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of underwriting experience from an MGA or carrier.

Job Summary

Review insurance applications, evaluate risks, and decide to accept or decline coverage based on established guidelines. Determine appropriate coverage levels and pricing, assess risks, and ensure safe and profitable risk distribution. Familiarize with commercial insurance applications and industry terminology.

Position Responsibilities

  • Follow underwriting guidelines and strategies to meet profitability goals, using authority levels to accept, reject, or mitigate risks.
  • Approve or decline applications within authority limits; prepare submissions for risks exceeding authority.
  • Analyze risk characteristics on applications, renewals, and change requests.
  • Ensure compliance with industry and government regulations.
  • Document underwriting files with risk analysis and pricing justifications.
  • Advise clients on reducing exposure to excessive risks.
  • Use guidelines, rules, and authority levels to determine premiums, limits, and coverages.
  • Build relationships with producers to achieve production targets.
  • Collaborate with team members to process applications efficiently.
  • Use databases and software to verify data and ensure accurate pricing.
  • Assist customers by providing guidance tailored to their needs.
  • Process accounts from quotes to policy issuance accurately and efficiently.
  • Suggest program development and process improvements.
  • Support team development through knowledge sharing, market intelligence, and mentoring.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of underwriting or related insurance experience.
  • Relevant licenses or certifications (CPCU, CIC, CRIS, Property & Casualty Brokers License) are a plus.
  • Experience in commercial casualty underwriting, including excess.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry-specific software.
  • Strong collaborative skills and desire to learn and adapt.
