Job description

The Group Exercise Instructor will lead members in a group environment through a pre-arranged format of exercises designed to enhance overall fitness, strength, and endurance, while ensuring the safety of the members. The instructor will also serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness.

Major Responsibilities:
Pre-class Preparation:

Arrive at the class location 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled start to interact with members, answer questions, inquire about their fitness progress, and introduce new participants. Know your participants individually and understand their fitness capabilities.

Wear appropriate fitness attire that allows participants to see proper form and movement, and avoid revealing clothing. Wear Gold’s Gym branded attire when possible. Proper footwear is mandatory.

Prepare suitable music for the class, avoiding offensive language. Ensure all equipment is functional and microphones are ready.

During Class Responsibilities:
  • Introduce yourself and explain the class format.
  • Identify first-time participants and assess their fitness levels discreetly.
  • Provide clear verbal instructions, maintain appropriate volume, and ensure the music and atmosphere facilitate learning and enjoyment.
  • Monitor participants’ form continuously, offering modifications to accommodate different fitness levels.
  • Create a motivating and fun environment for all.
After Class Responsibilities:
  • Remove music and return the microphone to its proper place.
  • Ensure the room is ready for the next class.
  • Address any questions or concerns from participants.
  • Gather feedback on the class.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Start and end classes on time, adjusting the flow if necessary to stay on schedule.
  • If teaching the last class, follow the facility’s closing procedures.
  • Find a qualified substitute if unable to teach and notify the Director.
  • Be dependable and consistent with class schedules, minimizing cancellations or substitutions.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Accurately record attendance and other required data promptly.
  • Prepare incident or witness reports if necessary.
  • Maintain professionalism and promote Gold’s Gym and GGX branding.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum six months of experience teaching group exercise classes.
  • Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and group exercise principles.
  • Understanding of basic physiology and body mechanics.
  • Ability to perform various exercise routines.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
  • Specialized skills (e.g., Yoga, Pilates, Body Pump, Body Attack) require verifiable proof of education.
  • Group fitness certification from ACE, AFAA, or ACSM.
  • Current CPR and basic first aid certifications.
  • Physical ability to lift light weights, and perform bending, squatting, jumping, running, reaching, walking, hopping, spinning, and kicking.
