As the first and last person our customers interact with in stores, you’re tasked with creating a lasting and positive memory of their Nelson’s shopping experience by always maintaining a positive and professional attitude, and working to deliver excellent customer service, while getting them through the check-out process quickly and easily. Our cashiers are key in helping us provide a positive shopping experience.

We are looking for a mature and responsible cashier to manage all transactions with customers accurately and efficiently. Cashier responsibilities include receiving payments, issuing receipts and keeping track of all cash, EBT, and credit transactions. To be successful in this role, you should have 2+ years previous experience in a cashier position and good knowledge of how cash registers operate. You should be available to be flexible to work between the hours of 7 AM-6:00 PM, Tuesday-Saturday (We are closed Sunday and Monday). Most important to be available Friday-Saturday as those are our busiest days. Ultimately, you’ll ensure all transactions run smoothly and will help us maximize customer satisfaction. Cashier will greet customers, customer service is a must! Also has to have good hygiene and a good attitude. Serious inquiries only.

As a Cashier, this means:

• Deliver excellent customer service with a positive, professional attitude
• Ensuring merchandise is accurately rung up and meets the needs of the customer.
• Engaging in safe work practices and encouraging others to do the same.
• Acknowledge and greet customers with a positive attitude when entering or leaving the store
• Be available to assist in other areas of the store as needed (stocking)
• Stand for long periods of time
• Manage transactions with customers using cash registers
• Collect payments whether in cash, credit, or EBT
• Issue receipts, refunds, change or tickets
• Resolve customer complaints, guide them and provide relevant information
• Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas
• Track transactions on balance sheets and report any discrepancies
• Handle merchandise returns and exchanges
• Paying attention to detail is extremely important in this role.

What We're Looking For

• Hourly Part Time: Generally scheduled 25-35 hours per week, respectively; more hours may be required based on the needs of the store. Especially during holidays.
• Requires afternoon availability, Tuesday-Wednesday and Friday-Saturday.
• Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, lifting of food products and placing items into bags, answering phones, writing down phone orders, and other activities necessary to perform job duties.
• Minimally must be able to lift 30 pounds without assistance; may lift over 40 pounds with or without assistance.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of cashier experience.
• 6 months of retail experience detecting common signs of shoplifting (e.g., merchandise hidden inside of containers, merchandise under carts, price labels switched).
