Job Title: Furniture Sander (Refinishing)

Department: Trades

Reports To: Director of Production

Pay Rate: $15 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7am-3:30pm

Position Summary

The Furniture Sander (Refinishing) plays a critical role in our production process, responsible for preparing furniture pieces for finishing. This includes sanding, stripping, and surface preparation to ensure each item meets Scout’s high-quality standards before painting, staining, or veneering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare furniture surfaces for finish application by sanding, stripping, or other preparation techniques.
  • Remove existing finishes using appropriate methods such as chemical stripping or grit blasting.
  • Mask or protect hardware, trim, and other areas not being finished to ensure a clean, professional result.
  • Maintain organized, clean workspaces and properly store tools, materials, and chemicals.
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulations related to the use and disposal of finishing materials.
  • Support the production team by assisting with other workshop tasks as needed.
Requirements

Education, Experience & Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • No prior experience necessary—willingness to learn is key.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
Skills, Abilities & Work Ethic
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to craftsmanship.
  • Ability to follow instructions closely and deliver consistent, high-quality results.
  • Comfortable using and learning a variety of tools and equipment related to sanding, prepping, and painting.
  • Must demonstrate a “can-do” attitude and team-oriented mindset—ready to jump in and support wherever needed.
  • Physically able to squat, bend, stretch, and lift throughout the day to reach all work surfaces.
  • Capable of prolonged standing and repetitive motion tasks in a workshop environment.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds as part of regular duties.
