This role provides clerical and administrative assistance supporting funeral operations. Responsibilities include meeting the general public, answering questions, providing information on funeral and cremation topics, answering phones courteously, and assisting with funeral, memorial, and other services as requested by clients and management. Attendance at monthly staff meetings is expected.

The Funeral Services Assistant duties must align with the company mission and values and adhere to company policies and procedures.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Prepare for services by delivering and setting up floral arrangements, chairs, caskets, urns, photos, and other personal keepsakes or mementos of client families; ensure proper care and storage of these items.
  2. Prepare documents related to services, cremations, and maintenance as directed by management.
  3. Assist with respectful preparation of remains, including dressing, lifting, or operating the crematory, as permitted by law and company regulations.
  4. Perform office duties such as answering phones, operating fax machines, computers, multiline phone systems, debit card machines, postage meters, scales, and stereo/video systems.
  5. Run errands for floral deliveries, supplies, documents, etc.
  6. Serve as an usher and assist with parking or transportation requirements.
  7. Drive funeral home vehicles for services and family transportation.
  8. Ensure refreshments are available where legally permitted.
  9. Assist with visitations, memorial, and funeral services, including setup, dressing, casketing remains, and delivering family items and flowers.
  10. Greet and assist client families and visitors entering the office.
  11. Accommodate family needs during services and visitations.
  12. Maintain cleanliness of funeral home and client vehicles as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Previous customer service and/or sales experience preferred. Proficiency with MS Office and databases preferred; willingness to learn required.

Certification/Licenses: Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

High level of compassion and integrity, with clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
