Thank you for your interest in joining the African Gifted Foundation (AGF) Board of Directors. This document outlines the roles, responsibilities, and expectations for each position on the AGF Board. AGF is dedicated to empowering talented African youth, particularly in STEM and education, and board members play a critical role in advancing this mission.
General Information for All Board RolesTime Commitment: Board members are expected to participate in five board meetings per year, in addition to committee meetings as applicable. Meetings will be conducted virtually or in person as needed (primarily virtual).
Term of Service: Each board member serves for 2 terms of three years, with the option to renew for a third term. At the end of each term, board members will undergo a review process to assess continuation.

Fundraising Chairperson Role OverviewThe Fundraising Chair will lead the development and execution of AGF’s US Board fundraising strategy, ensuring the board meets its annual financial targets. This individual will focus on working with other board members on cultivating relationships with donors, identifying new revenue opportunities, and creating innovative strategies to secure funding from corporations, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead / facilitate efforts in collaboration with the US Board Members to:
Expected Start Date: Board members will be expected to begin their term in April 2025. Prior to the official start date, new members will participate in an orientation session to familiarize themselves with the African Gifted Foundation’s mission, governance structure, and key priorities.
Onboarding Process: The onboarding process will include the following steps:
Welcome Packet: New board members will receive a comprehensive welcome packet, including:
Orientation Session: A virtual session to:
Committee Assignment: Board members will be assigned to at least one committee based on their expertise and interests (e.g., fundraising, finance, communications, or STEM partnerships).
Mentorship (Optional): New members may be paired with an experienced board member who can provide guidance and answer questions during the first few months.
Time Commitment:
Board Meetings: 5 meetings per year (held virtually), lasting approximately 2 hours each.
Committee Meetings: Frequency will depend on the committee but is typically quarterly or as needed.
Fundraising & Events: Participation in at least one fundraising event annually and contribution to donor cultivation efforts.
Other Commitments: Time required for reviewing materials, networking, and advocating for AGF within your personal and professional networks.
Financial Contributions: Contributions could include direct donations, securing sponsorships, or facilitating introductions to potential donors.
