A leading nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced fundraiser to enhance its client portfolio and secure significant new funding. The role involves developing strategies to raise substantial funds through various channels while building relationships with donors and stakeholders. The position allows for remote work, requiring coordination with teams in different time zones.
Since 2012, Raise the Children (RTC) has been investing in rural orphans that show a promise of success. RTC supports their school journey from Grade 8 onward with financial, academic, and psycho-social support. RTCs return on investment to is realized when our Scholars empower those around them through work in the social service sector, job creation, or philanthropic activities after completing school.
Raise the Children is in a rapid growth phase, and needs access to new streams of funding to realise its aim of supporting 200 Scholars a year.In 2025, Raise the Children will have 95 Scholars attending 17 schools across South Africa.
Raise the Children is seeking an experienced fundraiser with capacity to add to their client portfolio and a proven track record raising funds from North American and European trusts, grants, foundations, and individuals (major gifts).
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Develop and implement a strategy to raise a minimum of $200 000 in new funding per year
• Prospect to find new trusts, grants, foundations, and major gifts whose criteria match the charity's activities
• Raise awareness of the charity's work at national and international levels, particularly in Europe and North America
• Write proposals, complete funding applications, and track progress
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and implement a strategy to raise funds from trusts, grant-makers, foundations, and individuals
• Prospect to find new trusts, grants, foundations, and major gifts whose criteria match the charity's activities
• Raise awareness of the charity's work at national and international levels, particularly in Europe and North America
• Write proposals and complete grant applications
• Work with the South Africa team to ensure that all communications are accurate and aligned
SKILLS
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Strong research and analytical abilities to identify and evaluate funding sources
• Proven ability to craft compelling narratives and persuasive arguments
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to build strong relationships with donors and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with grant management software and databases is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, VALUES
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 5 years of experience, with evidence of success raising funds in Europeand/or North America
• High level of computer literacy and digital communication skills
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
WORKING HOURS:32 hours a month (about 1 day a week)
LANGUAGE:English (fluent)
LOCATION: Remote. Requires availability to meet with the program team in SAST (GMT +2).
