Job description

Harbourview Equity Partners is looking to hire a Private Equity Fund Controller to join our team in our Newark, NJ global headquarters.

What You will do:

Have you always wanted to work with a diverse team on interesting projects in a dynamic and fast-growing firm? Are you currently siloed and/or performing the same monotonous tasks every day?

If so, this is the perfect opportunity for you. We are looking to add a member to our finance team who will thrive in a role that promises growth, challenges, and the opportunity to make a significant impact within a forward‑thinking organization that respects work‑life balance.

You will work directly with our fund controllers, assisted by the senior fund controller and VP of Finance with an ultimate reporting line to the CFO. In this multifaceted position, you will not only drive accounting processes and accurate reporting, but also work with various teams such as investments, investor relations, and operations.

Your contributions will range from review of work done by our fund admin (monthly fund NAV packages, subscriptions, expenses) to working with our finance and investor relations team on investor communications. You'll be instrumental in sending out capital calls, distribution notices, and preparing accurate calculations of management fees and performance metrics such as IRR. You will also be involved in assisting our fund admin and other members of the finance team with the preparation of financial statements for various entities, both for our funds and the management company, and finalizing those financial statements as part of our annual audits.

Beyond daily activities, this role’s focus is truly on innovation and continual, gradual improvement; from revising financial models to be more streamlined to creating ad‑hoc analyses and spearheading special projects, your insights will assist the broader team in making informed and timely decisions and setting clear strategic objectives.

In addition to the above, you will also gain exposure on the management company side, including the payment and tracking of invoices and allocation of expenses amongst various entities.

Qualifications:
  • 6–12 years of experience in the alternative investment management industry, with a strong blend of private equity and hedge fund, credit, or other monthly‑close fund experience
  • Experience supporting evergreen or semi‑liquid fund structures (or comparable vehicles such as publicly traded BDCs, interval funds, or NAV‑based products) is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with financial reporting frameworks associated with SEC‑registered or publicly traded vehicles, including experience with 10‑K and 10‑Q style reporting, is a plus
  • Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, drawing valid conclusions, and competently driving solutions
  • Excellent knowledge of GAAP
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (Business Degree must be combined with hands‑on finance or accounting experience)
  • CPA (preferred)
  • Public Accounting experience (preferred)
  • Growth mindset highly desired
  • Ability and willingness to work on‑site in Newark, NJ three days every week
