Job summary

CBRE in Dallas seeks a Controller to develop and maintain planning and budget systems and to prepare financial and management reports and procedures.

You will supervise staff, coordinate daily activities, review journal entries, and partner with Finance on variances to budget and forecast. The role requires leadership, advanced MS Office skills, and strong analytical judgment to drive performance across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred with 12-15 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in staffing, selection, training, development, coaching, mentoring, measuring, appraising, and rewarding performance.
  • Ability to exchange sensitive, complicated information and convey performance expectations.
  • Leadership skills to motivate the team to achieve broad operational targets.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational and numeric skills.
  • Strong math skills for complex financial calculations.

About the Role:

As a CBRE Controller, you will assist in the development and maintenance of planning and budget systems and the preparation of financial and management reports and procedures.

This job is part of the Controlling job function. They are responsible for the Management of the organization's financial controls and the preparation of financial reports for management and shareholders.

What You’ll Do:
  • Provide formal supervision to employees. Monitor the training and development of staff. Conduct performance evaluations and coaching. Oversee the recruiting and hiring of new employees.
  • Coordinate and manage the team's daily activities. Establish work schedules, assign tasks, and cross-train staff. Set and track staff and department deadlines. Mentor and coach as needed.
  • Prepare, review, and approve journal entries prepared by the team. Partner with the Finance Department on variances to budget and forecast.
  • Perform profitability analysis, financial modeling, and operating statistics. Approve check and wire requests up to approved dollar amounts.
  • Provide technical advice and training on accounting systems.
  • Act as a primary contact with the organization’s internal and external auditors on accounting matters.
  • Interpret current policies, practices, and plans and implement new operating procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Ensure that systems follow acceptable accounting practices and applicable regulations.
  • Apply deep knowledge of multiple disciplines, broad industry knowledge, and commercial awareness. Drive financial and functional performance within disciplines and across business.
  • Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values. Negotiate with senior management, customers, and external parties of divergent interests to reach an agreement of strategic importance while being guided by the business segment and the organization's functional strategy.
  • Conceptualize new methods, techniques, processes, and standards across job disciplines or functions.
  • Direct the resolution of highly complex or unusual business problems by applying advanced critical thinking.
What You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred with 12-15 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Experience in the areas of staffing, selection, training, development, coaching, mentoring, measuring, appraising, and rewarding performance and retention is preferred.
  • Ability to exchange sensitive, complicated, and difficult information, convey performance expectations and handle problems.
  • Leadership skills to motivate the team to achieve broad operational targets with impacts on own job discipline, multiple job disciplines, and department.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Expert organizational skills with an unrivaled inquisitive mindset.
  • Expert math skills. Ability to calculate complex figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial related calculations

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the fund controller position is $120,000 annually and the maximum salary for the fund controller position is $130,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program.
