Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Functional System Architect to lead the architectural vision for vehicle chassis domains. You will drive requirements, map inputs to outputs, and ensure safe, integrated chassis systems across steering, propulsion, and active safety disciplines.

You will coordinate with product teams to refine the backlog, perform DFMEAs, and work with suppliers and GM-like controls/software teams to enable feasible, high- quality solutions.

Qualifications

• BS in engineering required.
• Minimum 5 years' experience with General Chassis Systems.
• Minimum 5 years' experience with ASIL D safety systems.
• Minimum 5 years' experience with Vehicle Dynamics/Kinematics.
• Strong analytical and decision-making abilities in ambiguous environments.
• Ability to lead a large group of engineers and collaborate cross-functionally.
• Experience with requirements management and change management tools.
• Experience with simulation environments and plant modeling.

Responsibilities

• Own the architectural vision for requirements and ART Solution context.
• Champion roll-down from FTS/STS/Portfolio Epic to create requirements architecture.
• Ensure seamless integration of chassis systems into the vehicle.
• Capture customer-facing requirements including NVH, performance, and diagnostics.
• Reference System Safety Hazard Analysis and partition safety requirements.
• Define functional requirements and map inputs to outputs.
• Lead system/subsystem DFMEAs and participate in design DFMEAs.
• Guide requirements work distribution with SSLEs and Scrum roles.
• Collaborate with Product Team to review backlog and assess feasibility.

Job description

• Join the VMEC Vehicle Dynamics/Chassis Controls group as a Functional System Architect (FSA)
• Own the Vision: Develop and drive the requirements architectural vision and ART Solution context for your domain.
• Champion the roll-down from FTS, STS, Portfolio Epic, and Product Team to create requirements architecture.
• Ensure seamless integration of Chassis Systems into the vehicle, including interfaces with steering, propulsion, active safety, and other disciplines.
• Capture customer-facing requirements, including NVH, performance, functionality, diagnostics, and remedial actions.
• Reference System Safety Hazard Analysis and partition safety hazard requirements to functions.
• Define functional requirements and map inputs to outputs.
• Lead System/Subsystem DFMEAs and participate in design-level DFMEAs.
• Guide the dispersion of requirements work with SSLEs in accordance with scrum responsibilities.
• Collaborate with the Product Team to review and update the backlog of work and determine technical feasibility.

Requirements

• Bachelors Degree in engineering
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with General Chassis Systems.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with ASIL D safety systems.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with Vehicle Dynamics/Kinematics.
• Expert understanding of the physics related to related Systems.
• High level of analytical problem-solving ability, including independent judgment and decision making skills, where problems are very ambiguous.
• Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from manager
• High level of oral and written communication skills
• High level of interpersonal styles and communication Skills to lead a large group of engineers and also work cross functionally for best results.
• Ability to interface effectively with Supplier’s software and controls organizations as well as GM in-house Controls/Software teams.
• Experience with Requirements management tools (i.e. Doors, DNG, etc.)
• Experience with Change management tools (i.e. Rational Team Concert, aka RTC, Jira)
• Background using simulation environments and Plant modeling for fault insertion analysis, testing, requirements generation (Matlab/Simulink, CarSim, D-Space, ETAS, other)
