Job summary

EDAG UK in Troy, NY seeks a Functional Safety Engineer to drive hazard analyses, ASIL classifications, and safety case development for automotive mechatronics projects.

You will translate safety requirements into HW/SW specs, perform FTAs/FMEAs, and collaborate across design reviews and cross-functional teams to ensure system safety from concept to launch.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Masters preferred in Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with Automotive EE architectures (Domain, Distributed) across Powertrain, Body, etc.
  • Strong 1st principles understanding; result/solution oriented.
  • Subject matter expert in Systems Engineering, multi-domain physics, EE-SW integration.
  • Experience with embedded systems such as wiring and power distribution units.
  • Familiarity with CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, and other automotive protocols.
  • English proficiency at C1-C2 level.
  • Willingness to travel within the assigned territory.
  • Project duration around 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure HARAs are completed properly and classify risks using the ASIL system.
  • Define functional safety goals and system responses to prevent accidents.
  • Translate high-level safety requirements into HW/SW requirements and diagnostics.
  • Conduct FTAs and FMEA analyses.
  • Coordinate root-cause analyses and engineering teams and suppliers on safety issues.
  • Document safety status through reports and work products.
  • Participate in safety assessments, audits, and safety cases for vehicle homologation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders throughout system V development from concept to launch.

DESCRIPTION

  • Work with team members to ensure HARAs (Hazard and Risk Analyses) are completed properly, classify risks using the ASIL system, and define functional safety goals and system responses to prevent accidents.
  • Support translation of high-level safety requirements into detailed HW and SW requirements and specification of diagnostic requirements.
  • Assist with conducting FTAs (Fault Tree Analyses) and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analyses).
  • Coordinate root-causes analysis and engineering teams and suppliers when safety issue arise
  • Generate work products and reports to document the safety status of a given project.
  • Participate in safety assessments, audits, and the creation of safety cases for final vehicle homologation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders through system “V” development from concept to launch with design reviews and CFT.
  • Domain/working knowledge of SW controls, EE, electronics, and expertise in development, testing and validation methods of mechatronics systems.
    REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. (Preferred Masters in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Systems Engineering.
  • Extensive experience working with Automotive EE architectures (both Domain, Distributed) from Powertrain, Body, etc.
  • Strong understanding of 1st principles in Engineering, result/solution oriented
  • Subject matter expert in Systems Engineering, Multi-domain physics, Complex systems design with EE, SW integration.
  • Experience with embedded systems such as wiring and power distribution units
  • Familiarity with CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, and/or other automotive communication protocols
  • English (C1-C2).
  • Willingness to travelwithin the assigned territory.
  • Project for 12 months
