Job summary

Top Prospect Group is seeking a Function Test Technician for the College Park, MD facility. The role involves performing electrical and mechanical tests on rail cars, troubleshooting, and documenting results. It is a 6-month temporary-to-hire position with full benefits eligibility after hiring.

Ideal candidates will read electrical schematics, use multi-meters and PC-based test equipment, and work under deadline-driven conditions in an active rail yard environment. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

Job Title: Function Test Technician

Details:

• Duration: 6 months Temp to Hire
• Location: College Park, MD
• Salary: $27/hr depending on experience
• Shift 1st shift 5am - 2pm
• Openings: 4 Positions Available

Position Summary and Special Duties:

As a Function Test Technician, your day-to-day duties will consist of, but may not be limited to:

Job Details:

• Perform all aspects of work on rail cars being processed through the College Park, MD Facility and Commissioning Sites.
• Troubleshoot, repair, modify, and perform electrical and mechanical work on rail cars.
• Use standard hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, etc.), multi-meters, clamp meters, and PC-based test/diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting.
• Read and interpret piping diagrams, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and electrical schematics to complete job assignments.

Testing Responsibilities:

• Perform test procedures on various systems, including: - HVAC - Brakes - Propulsion - Communication Systems - Toilet Systems - Trainline Systems - Sign Systems - Automatic Train Control Systems - General Functional Tests - Hipotential Tests - Wiring Continuity Tests - Pneumatic Leakage Tests - Dynamic Tests - Burn-in Tests
• Occasionally assist and support the engineering group on various engineering tests.
• Interact directly with the customer and clearly communicate test intent and results.
• Fill out all test record sheets, create rejection reports, and complete all required documentation.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Minimum of previous work experience in the electrical/electronic testing field.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical school or an associate’s degree in electrical/electronic engineering preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Proficiency with all basic hand tools.
• Proficiency using multi-meters, clamp meters, and PC-based test equipment.
• Ability to complete test record sheets and create rejection reports.
• Proficiency with the English measurement system and willingness to learn the Metric system.
• Capable of working under pressure with specific deadlines.
• Ability to work flexible hours and any shift.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
• Comfortable working in a rail yard environment.
• Willingness to travel for business trips or field assignments as needed.
• Familiarity with MS Office applications.
