Job summary

Arrow Center for Education in Maryland is seeking a Teacher to provide services described in IEPs/PEPs and to instruct and supervise small groups of students to raise academic achievement and monitor social behavior. You will implement the educational program for each class and maintain records, attendance, grades and progress notes.

A Bachelor’s Degree and a valid State Department of Education Teaching Certificate are required, or you must be eligible and willing to obtain the certificate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a valid (issued) State Department of Education Teaching Certificate in the area required by the specific assignment, or eligible and willing to obtain the certificate within state-mandated timelines.
  • At least 1 year of teaching experience in special education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe learning environment for students within the Arrow Center for Education administrative policies and procedures.
  • Provide direct group and individual instruction to students in English/language arts, math, science, social studies and/or electives.
  • Prepare and utilize comprehensive unit plans to instruct groups of approximately nine students.
  • Provide a learning environment that is stimulating and motivating for students who generally have not adjusted well to school.
  • Assure the timely completion of all necessary paperwork to record student progress (attendance, grades, behavior).
  • Prepare periodic and special evaluations through the IEP or PEP for assigned students and recommend plan changes.
  • Participate as an active member of the Treatment Team and communicate information orally and in writing.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of a positive school culture.
  • Maintain rules, safety and security of students, providing crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Inform the Principal of all relevant situations.
  • Maintain emergency lesson plans for unforeseen absences.
  • Attend trainings and meetings as required.
  • Share the mission and vision of Arrow Child & Family Ministries to staff, students and families served.
  • Perform duties within contract, state and federal regulations, company policy, and regulatory standards.
  • May be required to drive vehicles and complete company vehicle training.

  • Maintain a safe learning environment for students within the scope of the Arrow Center for Education administrative policies and procedures. Supervises and manages student behavior in the classroom, school and school-sponsored functions.
  • Provide direct group and individual instruction to students in English/language arts, math, science, social studies and/or a range of electives and/or other required courses.
  • Prepare and utilize comprehensive unit plans to instruct groups of approximately nine (9) students. Utilize academic performance, learning style and clinical information on each student to design and implement curriculum, instructional strategies and materials to “fit” the student.
  • Provide a learning environment that is stimulating and motivating to students who generally have not adjusted well to school.
  • Assure the timely completion of all necessary paperwork to accurately record student progress. This is to include daily attendance records, grades and behavioral logs.
  • Prepare periodic and special evaluations through the IEP or PEP (as applicable) for assigned students. Reports significant changes in educational and social behavior and makes recommendations for plan changes.
  • Participate as an active member of the Treatment Team. Communicates all appropriate information within and without the classroom orally and in writing.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a positive school culture.
  • Maintain proper rules, safety and security of students, providing crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Inform the Principal of all relevant situations.
  • Maintain emergency lesson plans to be implemented during unforeseen absences.
  • Attend trainings and meetings as required.
  • Share/transmit the mission and vision of Arrow Child & Family Ministries to staff and to students and families served.
  • Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, company policy, and regulatory agency standards.
  • May be required to drive vehicles, be insurable with our auto insurance provider, and complete company vehicle training.
