Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a skilled field technician in Colorado Springs to inspect, test, and troubleshoot fire alarm, sprinkler, and suppression systems per NFPA standards. Travel to job sites as required; strong documentation skills essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in fire and life safety as a technician.
• Fully licensed inspector with NICET 2 FA or CSA FA2 and related licenses.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable codes; ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and test fire alarms, sprinklers, and suppression systems per NFPA and local codes.
• Activate devices, verify system functionality, and document results.
• Communicate findings to customers and internal teams.
• Interpret drawings, layouts, and technical documents; identify deficiencies and perform basic repairs.
• Travel to job sites and maintain tools and equipment; ensure safety compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Independently perform inspection, testing, and basic troubleshooting of fire alarms, fire sprinklers, and fire suppression systems per NFPA standards and local codes.
• Conduct device activation, system functionality checks, and alarm verification.
• Accurately document inspection and testing results.
• Identify deficiencies and perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs.
• Communicate findings with customers and internal teams.
• Interpret system drawings, layouts, and technical documents.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Education/Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in the fire and life safety industry as a technician.
• A Fully licensed inspector must have the following licenses: NICET 2 FA or CSA FA2 License, Sprinkler Fitter State & CSA, ASCR2 license, Kitchen Suppression & Extinguisher CSA, KHFE2 License, Fire Hydrant, PPRBD License, Backflow ASSE License.
• Minimum of 2 years experience performing NFPA inspections.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable codes.
• Independently capable in core technical functions.
• Able to complete standard jobs without direct supervision.

Other Duties

• Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and climbing ladders.
• Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
• Use of hand tools and testing equipment under supervision.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.

Compensation

• $40 - $45 / per hour DOE
