Job summary

Alphanumeric Systems, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Richmond, VA team on a contract basis with potential for conversion.

The role is hybrid (2 days onsite) with remote consideration for EST/CST time zones. You will design, build, and maintain scalable data and web applications using Postgres SQL, Azure Synapse, Python, and PySpark, ensuring performance, reliability, and secure data handling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse, Delta Lake, and Postgres.
• Expertise in SQL and Python, with a strong understanding of Azure App Service and web UI integration.
• Proven analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable web applications, data pipelines, and workflows using Postgres SQL and Azure Synapse.
• Troubleshoot, enhance, and optimize existing UI and data workflows for reliability and performance.
• Analyze and resolve production issues across front end, back end, and data layers with root-cause analysis and permanent fixes.
• Design and maintain data control frameworks to ensure integrity, security, and compliance across Synapse and integrated applications.
• Collaborate with actuarial stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, backlog grooming, and task estimation.
• Apply CI/CD, unit testing, version control, and monitoring best practices.
• Use automation and scripting to improve deployment efficiency and system scalability.
• Support QA/UAT cycles, ensuring deliverables meet business and usability expectations.
• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for long-term knowledge sharing.

Senior Software Engineer (Hybrid - Richmond, VA)

Pay Range: $61 - $66/hour (W2 Only)

Type: Contract (with potential for conversion)

Location: Richmond, VA - Hybrid (2 days onsite) preferred.
