Job description

This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.

The purpose of this position is to provide safe, courteous, and on-time transportation to the general public.

Essential Functions:

  1. Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
  2. Operate transit vehicles to transport passengers over established routes according to set time schedules.
  3. Collect fares, issue transfers, and provide verbal information to the public regarding routes, schedules, and transfer points.
  4. Monitor radio communication while in route to ensure safe and timely arrival and departure times.
  5. Conduct routine pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and complete associated documentation on assigned vehicles.
  6. Clean assigned vehicle after completion of a daily assignment or as necessary.
  7. Regulate heating and cooling for passenger comfort.
  8. Complete incident and accident reports.

Additional responsibilities include:

  1. Report mechanical defects to the immediate supervisor.
  2. Monitor pre-established fares and record money, tokens, and transfers received.
  3. Provide special care to elderly and individuals with disabilities; operate wheelchair lift equipment for passengers using mobility devices and those unable to use stairs.
  4. Attend meetings and training functions as assigned.
  5. Perform other work as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  1. Work involves walking or standing some of the time and involves the repetitive operation of mass transit vehicles.
  2. Sit for extended periods, lift or pull up to 40 pounds, perform repetitive body movements to operate controls, work independently with minimal breaks, and operate a transit vehicle in heavy traffic and hazardous situations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

A current CPR and Standard First Aid certification or the ability to acquire them within six months of hire is preferred.

Certifications offered with employment include:

Possess or be able to obtain a valid Class A, B, or C CDL driver’s license for public transportation in Tennessee with a P endorsement within 30 days of employment.
