POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN THREE DIVISIONS
- StreetsÂ
- Signs & MarkingsÂ
- StormwaterÂ
Employees will be assigned to one of three divisions
- Streets: Under immediate or general supervision, performs street and sidewalk repair and/or maintenance
- Signs & Markings: Under immediate or general supervision, performs installation and maintenance to street signs, thermoplastic markings, raised pavement markers, and parking lot painting.Â
- Stormwater Maintenance: Under immediate or general supervision, performs general maintenance duties in support of the City's Stormwater Operations.

- Assists with the set up and removal of temporary traffic control.Â
- Flagging.Â
- Picks up litter, weed eats around obstacles, and flags traffic for slope-mowing operations.
- Assists with the removal and replacement of concrete sidewalk.
- Assists with roadway repairs to include shoveling and raking of gravel for both hot and cold asphalt.Â
- Works on crack sealing crew by prepping cracks for sealant and assisting with mobile traffic control.Â
- Under supervision, trims trees and shrubs for right-of-way clearance.Â
- Under supervision, pulls noxious weeds from the right-of-way.
SIGNS & MARKINGS:Â
- Assists with sign fabrication.Â
- Trims, washes, straightens, and maintains existing signs near and within traffic.Â
- Installs new signs and poles, replacing sign poles that are knocked down.Â
- Assists with the setting up and removal of traffic control devices (signs & cones) for work zones.Â
- Flagging.Â
- Drives work trucks with flashing lights to protect workers within the lane for button replacements.Â
- Sets up traffic control for the banner installations across College Street.Â
- Hammers off defective buttons and hand replaces them with bituminous tar.Â
- Grinds off old thermoplastic, prepares clean layout for new thermoplastic, and uses heavy duty propane torches for installation.Â
- Assists with parking lot painting using backpack blowers, wire brushes, and soaping and scraping stencils used for painting arrows, stop bars, words, and numbers.Â
STORMWATER MAINTENANCE
- Operates large lawn mowers and tractors over rough and uneven terrain.Â
- Utilizes landscape maintenance tools including but not limited to push mower, shovel, rake, and broom.Â
- Removal of litter from storm ponds.Â
- Assists in the cleaning of catch basins by working in support of the Vactor truck operator.Â
- Sets up traffic controls.Â
- Flagging.Â
- Safely operates City vehicle with a trailer.Â
- Documents and tracks daily maintenance.Â
- Various other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.Â
- Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.Â
- Must pass a thorough background investigation.Â
- Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.Â
- Must have a valid Washington State driver license and a driving record acceptable to the City and the City's insurance carrier.
- Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act
Preferred Qualifications
- Street maintenance and/or signs & markings experience preferred.
- Flagger certification.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to the work rules and guidelines.Â
- Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude.Â
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
- Typical assignments are out-of-doors normally requiring work in inclement weather at cold, hot, dirty, wet, noisy, or cramped work sites.Â
- The work involves physical labor, physical dexterity, and mechanical aptitude.Â
- Duties may require exposure to chemicals, toxic gases, raw sewage, or other environmental hazards.
Physical Abilities
- Hearing, speaking, or otherwise communicating to exchange information in person or on the phone.
- Perform physical labor associated with the essential duties of the position.Â
- Work in the field in all weather conditions and over rough terrain.Â
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to sixty (60) lbs.Â
- Some assistance is available to mitigate the heaviest lifting.Â
- Bending, kneeling/crouching, reaching, climbing and crawling.Â
- Operating equipment; electric, gas, and various hand tools.
- Grasp and hold and effectively use assigned personal protective equipment and tools for the position.
