Job summary

Ampersand Therapy is seeking a full-time Sign Language Interpreter for a school setting in Athens, GA. You will interpret between spoken English and sign language to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students and collaborate with teachers and related staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• EIPA 3.5 or RID certification required or preferred.
• Knowledge of Deaf culture and educational interpreting practices.
• Ability to work effectively with students, staff and families.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in classroom settings and school activities.
• Interpret spoken English into sign language and sign language into spoken English in real time.
• Support student understanding while maintaining teacher communication integrity.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers.
• Assist with implementing IEPs as appropriate.
• Maintain FERPA/privacy compliance and adapt interpreting style to student needs.
