Job Summary:Under the direction of the Manager or Senior Manager, the Senior Clinical Data Specialist plays a vital role in delivering quality solutions to hospital partners across the country. This is a unique opportunity to be part of our team during a growth milestone, leveraging our deep cancer registry expertise. Team members must be willing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your specialized knowledge and patient storytelling skills to categorize, code, summarize, interpret, and mine registry/case information from nuanced, unstructured patient medical records.
  • Perform data collection (abstracting) and reporting on eligible cancer cases according to current state mandates and national standards.
  • Ensure high-quality data submission to specified registries or data repositories with a focus on accuracy.
  • Support our partners’ CoC Accreditation process through strong registry operations, policy creation, and utilization of quality tools.
  • Engage in educational opportunities, including on-the-job learning, CEUs, and paid time for continuing education.
  • Stay updated on regulatory and reporting requirements from federal, state, payer, and other agencies.
  • Contribute to best practices, data dictionaries, and process improvements.
  • Participate in a culture of continuous learning and collaboration, supporting colleagues’ development, including those recently certified.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Evaluate concordance with cancer program accreditation standards.
  • Experience with multiple EMRs and clinical databases.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and attention to detail skills.
  • Technically savvy with an interest in learning new systems and technologies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management across multiple accounts.
  • Commitment to information security and privacy, maintaining PHI confidentiality.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Education and Experience:

  • Certified in ODS.
  • At least 5+ years of abstracting experience with an ODS certification.
  • Experience in cancer registry data abstraction.
  • Exposure to EMRs and clinical databases.
