Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the Director of Security, the Security Officer patrols assigned territory to protect persons and property. Position will work from 8am-4pm shift, Monday-Friday. Occasional weekends may be required. Must be at least 19 years of age to apply. Position pays $17 an hour.

Responsibilities

• Tours buildings and property of the university, examining doors, windows and gates to assure they are secure.
• Inspects premises for such irregularities as signs of intrusion, interruption of utility services, suspicious acts or persons and fire or safety hazards.
• Inspects fire alarms, fire extinguishers, closed circuit television and access control systems for signs of tampering.
• Answers alarms, investigates disturbances and calls appropriate authorities as required by situation.
• Answers lock out calls from students or faculty/staff.
• Locks and unlocks doors according to schedule.
• Assists visitors or the general public in problems that may arise on the university campus.
• Writes reports of irregularities and keeps a daily log.
• Maintains confidentiality of security information.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

• Previous experience as a security officer preferred.

Certifications

• Certified in CPR and First Aid.

Special Position Requirements

• Ability to walk for 30-40 minutes per hour during an eight hour shift.
• Ability to climb up to three flights of stairs at a time.
• Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions throughout the year.
• Vision correctable to 20/20 required.
• Hearing correctable within a normal range required.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Must possess a good moral character.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements

• Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
• Considerable physical activity, requires heavy physical work, heavy lifting, pushing, pulling required up to 25 pounds. Physical work is part of this job.
• Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
