Job summary

Marquette Mountain Resort is seeking a Lift Operator for the seasonal period from October 14, 2026 to April 14, 2027. The role focuses on the safe operation of lift stations, assisting guests, and delivering exceptional guest experiences at our Michigan ski area.

You will perform daily inspections, maintain lift logs, and communicate updates on lift status and resort operations. A high school diploma or GED and the ability to lift and assist guests are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be physically able to assist guests getting on/off lift.
• Must be 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Assist guests in the safe loading and unloading of the ski lift.
• Provide instruction and superior customer service to all guests.
• Check to ensure every skier/snowboarder has a valid day ticket/season pass prior to boarding lift.
• Perform daily pre/post operation inspections and procedures.
• Accurately complete required operational documentation daily, including lift logs and facility tracking sheets.
• Slow chairs to ensure comfort and safety; stop lifts as necessary.
• Answer guest questions promptly and courteously; contribute to a positive interaction.
• Guest engagement: warmly greet arriving guests and be the primary contact for an exceptional resort experience.
• Provide operational updates on resort openings, closures, delays, and events.
• Inform guests of daily lift opening/closing times and any status changes due to weather or maintenance.
• Meet service level objectives and department goals as set by the Supervisor and GM.
• Maintain familiarity with policies and emergency procedures; implement safety measures.

Job Purpose

The Lift Operator primarily oversees the smooth and effective operation of an assigned lift station, including the monitoring and operation of lift machinery and same lift station.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist all guests in the safe loading and unloading of the ski lift, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Provide instruction and superior customer service to all those coming into contact with, enhancing the overall guest experience.
• Check to ensure every skier/snowboarder has valid day ticket/season pass prior to boarding lift
• Perform daily pre/post operation inspections and procedures
• Accurately complete required operational documentation each day, including daily lift logs and facility tracking sheets.

Create Positive Experiences

• Slow chairs to ensure the comfort and safety of passengers loading and unloading, creating a positive and enjoyable lift experience. Stop the lifts as necessary.
• Answer guest questions promptly and courteously, contributing to a positive and informative guest interaction.
• Guest Engagement: Warmly greet arriving guests and serve as a primary point of contact to ensure an exceptional resort experience.
• Operational Updates: Proactively communicate accurate, up-to-date information regarding resort operations, including facility openings, closures, delays, and special events.
• Lift Status Advisory: Inform guests of daily lift opening and closing times, as well as any real-time status changes due to weather or maintenance.
• Meet service level objectives and department goals as set by the Supervisor and General Manager.

Foster Lifelong Learning

• Maintain familiarity with all policies, procedures, and rules regarding operation and riding ski lifts, continuously improving knowledge and expertise.
• Implement emergency procedures, including contacting ski patrol, demonstrating readiness to learn and adapt in emergency situations.

Exhibit Pioneering Spirit

• Identify potential hazards and report them immediately, showing initiative and a pioneering spirit in maintaining a safe environment.
• Assist in the evacuation of a disabled lift if needed, demonstrating a willingness to take on challenges and solve problems.

Demonstrate Good Stewardship

• Maintain load/unload ramps and Lift Shack areas by shoveling or raking snow and picking up trash demonstrating care and stewardship for the resort's facilities.
• Ensure all chairs are clear of snow, ice, and/or grease before loading passengers, ensuring the safety and comfort of guests and colleagues.

Additional Duties As Assigned

• Perform all other job duties as assigned, supporting the overall success of the lift operations and the resort.
• Holiday & Peak Availability: Must be available to work during assigned holiday periods (including Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Presidents' Day) as these are our busiest operational times.
• Standard Hours: Must be available to work within the department’s standard scheduled operational hours.
• Weekend Availability: Weekend shifts are required based on departmental needs.
• Flexibility: Willingness to accommodate schedule adjustments, including opening, closing, or peak-coverage shifts as needed.
