Full Time Registered Veterinary Technician - Rancho Village Veterinary Hospital

PetVet Care Centers’ Rancho Village Veterinary Hospital in La Mesa, California, is seeking a Full‑Time Registered Veterinary Technician to join a team of three full‑time veterinarians and provide high‑quality veterinary care and exceptional service to patients and clients.

Position Overview

As a Registered Veterinary Technician, you will support hospital operations by providing dedicated veterinary care, maintaining patient records, and ensuring a safe, humane environment. Responsibilities include patient examinations, diagnostic procedures, surgical assistance, nursing care, medication administration, inventory management, and client communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, reviewing care plans, completing laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging.
  • Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds.
  • Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, and restraining patients as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and specialized equipment usage to provide excellent pet care.
  • Obtain and verify medications and ensure proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing instruments, disinfecting areas, storing supplies, and following legal regulations.
  • Maintain accurate medical records by documenting patient conditions, reactions, and changes, updating the database timely.
  • Communicate with pet owners about patient status as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and request repairs.
  • Manage inventory, place orders for supplies, and verify receipts.
  • Continuously update job knowledge through educational opportunities and professional journals.
  • Release patients to owners with clean and properly groomed animals.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management or the practice.
Qualifications (Required)
  • 1–2 years experience as a licensed RVT.
  • Client communication and client education experience.
  • Record keeping and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with multi-line phone systems.
  • Ability to restrain cats and dogs of various sizes and temperaments.
  • Knowledge of sanitary protocols.
  • Experience with surgical preparation and surgical monitoring.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Knowledge of Avimark.
Schedule
  • Schedules include four weekday shifts with one weekend shift.
  • Must be flexible for Saturday or Sunday availability.
