Job summary

SL Ranch in Stevensville, Montana is seeking a full-time ranch hand to perform a variety of duties related to hay and cattle production. No housing provided. Responsibilities include equipment upkeep, irrigation and crop management, livestock feeding, calving support, and kennel care.

Must work outdoors in varied weather and be able to lift up to 100 lbs. DOE compensation; long hours may be required. Experience with horse and cattle handling, safe operation of multiple tools, and reliable,

Qualifications

• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-starter, highly motivated.
• Ability to work long hours.
• Proficient in safe operation of equipment used for haying, loaders, tractors, 4-wheeler, vehicles, power tools, chainsaw, etc.
• Time management and reliability.
• Experience handling horses and cattle; able to identify sickness or lameness.
• Must lift up to 100 lbs.
• Framing knowledge or roping ability a plus.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and maintenance of equipment, fences, ditches, headgates and pipes.
• Crop management and irrigation supervision for hay crops.
• Operate haying equipment and move irrigation pipes and guns; ensure pastures are watered.
• Daily feeding of livestock and care of chickens.
• Snow plowing, mowing, weed eating as directed.
• Calving support including feeding, tagging, vaccinations; basic vet care as needed.
• Daily kennel cleaning.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
