Job summary

IKS Health is seeking an experienced medical coder to join our remote team in the United States. You will code outpatient, physician, and emergency department records using ICD-10-CM, CPS and CPT, and ensure accurate diagnosis, procedure and DRG assignments after reviewing the chart.

As a coding leader, you will participate in training, share knowledge with the team, and stay current with Coding Clinic guidelines.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of coding Gen Surg procedures (profee and facility)
• 2+ years of Ophthalmology and multi-speciality charts coding
• Experience with diagnosis, E&M and CPTs
• Passed coding proficiency test and strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPS and CPT guidelines

Responsibilities

• Review medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures relative to the encounter
• Assign principal diagnoses and procedures along with other codes per UHDDS
• Ensure appropriate DRG assignment and accurate chart abstraction
• Enter coded charts in real-time and maintain high productivity and quality
• Clarify ambiguous documentation with clinicians as needed
• Participate in training, rounds, and coding education activities
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Coding Clinic and Official Guidelines

As an experienced coder, you will be responsible for providing coding and abstracting services for clients on outpatient, physician or emergency room medical records using ICD 10-CM, CPS and CPT coding systems. You will use established coding principles, software and your knowledge and experience to assign diagnostic and procedural codes after a thorough review of the medical record. As a coding leader, you will participate in industry forums as well as support coding education within the team.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Reviews medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures relative to the patient's health care encounter. Selects the principal diagnosis and principal procedure, along with other diagnoses and procedures using UHDDS definition.
Ensures appropriate DRG assignment. Abstracts appropriate information from the medical record based on the guidelines provided by the client and after a thorough review of the medical record.
Consistently meet productivity and quality performance requirements. Responsible for utilizing company applications to enter charts coded in real-time throughout the scheduled shift.
Solicits clarification from the physician regarding ambiguous or conflicting documentation in the medical record using guidelines provided by the client.
Participate in team meetings and all training required by company staff or the client. May be asked to participate in training or shadowing of other coders. Flexibility in assignment over multiple clients to ensure meeting required classification hours.
Participate in Coding Roundtables through presentation of materials, articles and current issues related to coding and Health Information Management.
Maintains current knowledge of the information contained in the Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
Participates in education modules as assigned. Responsible for keeping coding credentials up to date and active.
Maintains effective and professional communication skills. Contributes to a positive company image by exhibiting professionalism, adaptability and mutual respect.

Credentials Required: CPC,COC,CIC,CCA,CCS,CCS-P,RHIT or RHIA
Must haveat least 3 years of experience coding a variety of Gen Surg procedures. Profee and Facility charts
Must have at least 2 years of experience coding Opthamology, Multi Speciality chartsd. Profee and Faiclity charts.
Epic/3M experience- preffered, but can train.
Ability, experience coding diagnosis, E&M and CPTs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must have a minimum of 3+ years of surgery experience coding a variety of procedures, including but not limited to: tonsillectomy, tumor excision, tracheostomy, lymph node removal, thyroid lobectomy, skin graft, laminotomy, facetectomy, foraminotomy, herniated disk repair, vertebral augmentation, spinal fixation, allograft, etc.
Understands medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology and disease processes.
Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPS and CPT coding principles and guidelines, reimbursement systems, federal, state and payor-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing.
Must pass coding proficiency test.
Knowledge / Skills: Requires strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
Requires a high level of coding accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent oral and written communication skills – must be detailed and articulate.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required
Working Conditions: Remote working environment; Extended periods of computer-based work.
Physical Demands: Prolonged computer screen usage, keyboarding. Long periods of sitting are commensurate with computer-based work and work-related phone calls
Compensation and Benefits: The pay for this position is $28hr - $32hr. Pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to current market conditions, location, education, work experience, certifications, etc. IKS Health offers a competitive benefits package including healthcare, 401 (k), and paid time off (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements for full-time employees).
