Work Schedule

Roles require rotating shifts—including daytime, evening, overnight, weekends, and holidays. Shifts may include 12-hour and 8-hour options.

About the Unit

UPMC Presbyterian 10 South (10S) is a dynamic unit focused on patient-centered care, specializing in diverse medical conditions such as pulmonary issues, kidney and liver failure, gastrointestinal disorders, infectious diseases, cardiovascular conditions, and behavioral health.

Training Requirement

All new hires must complete a mandatory training course with full attendance.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver routine patient care and support services per policies and procedures.
  • Assist nurses and physicians to maintain high-quality care.
  • Support activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, blood glucose monitoring).
  • Take vital signs, perform simple dressings, 12-lead EKGs, bladder scans, and collect specimens.
  • Report equipment issues and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Ensure safety, demonstrate professionalism, and maintain positive relationships.
  • Assist with therapies and patient education under RN guidance.
  • Adhere to safety standards and document patient information accurately.
  • Complete clerical and other tasks promptly.
Career Ladder

Our career ladder supports your growth from Nursing Assistant to Patient Care Technician, then to Senior/Specialist, and Lead roles, with resources, mentorship, and education at each step. Compensation starts at $18.40/hour, based on qualifications and ladder level.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of UPMC Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or EIC training program.
  • Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Preferred: CNA, EMT, Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in related programs.
  • Limited medication access; primarily for distribution to nurses.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR, with CPR certification per AHA standards within 30 days of hire.
  • Act 34 clearance.
