Are you looking to establish a fulfilling, hands-on health care career while elevating the patient experience? As a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician with UPMC Presbyterian, you’ll make a meaningful difference by working with our team to provide high-quality patient care.

Roles require working rotating shifts, including daytime, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Shifts may include 12-hour and 8-hour schedules.

All hires must complete a mandatory training course with full attendance.

About the Role:

Nursing Assistants and Patient Care Technicians provide routine patient care supporting department services per policies and procedures. Under the guidance of nurses and physicians, duties may include ADLs, vital signs, dressings, EKGs, bladder scans, and specimen collections.

About 8N:

The 17-bed Acute Care and Medical Observation Unit (8N) cares for patients with acute and chronic conditions, handling issues like heart failure, shortness of breath, and sepsis. It serves as both an acute care and observation unit for patients needing close monitoring or further evaluation.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or PCT training programs or classes.
  • Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience & Education:
  • Nursing Assistant: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Patient Care Technician: High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year healthcare experience, or clinical rotations, or a health sciences degree.
  • Senior PCT: High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years healthcare experience, clinical rotations, or a health sciences degree; completion of senior training required.
Certifications & Clearances:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR within 30 days of hire.
  • Act 34 clearance.
