Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a full-time night shift (7p–7a) with every third weekend and PRN opportunities. This role is based at UAB St. Vincent's East.

The position requires licensure as a Respiratory Therapist, NBRC certification, and BLS within 30 days. The department focuses on evaluation, treatment planning, equipment management, and patient education.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist credentialed by Alabama Board obtained prior to hire date.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist credentialed by NBRC obtained prior to hire date.

Responsibilities

• Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
• Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop a plan of care based on diagnosis.
• Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment; monitor, record and communicate patient condition; perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
• Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
• Educate the patient and family about the health condition and community resources.
• Assist with care, calibration and maintenance of equipment; maintain departmental inventory; process equipment per cleaning/sterilization procedures.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team calls
