The ideal candidate has at least five years in mortgage lending with supervisory experience, strong leadership, project management, and excellent communication.

Job description

Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the Mortgage Department. Actively engaged leader responsible for the overall performance, effectiveness, and continuous improvement of the department. Leads and develops mortgage employees while remaining closely engaged in day‑to‑day operations and providing direct support when workload, complexity, or business needs require. Responsible for understanding the full mortgage process and maintaining a broad organizational perspective, recognizing how decisions within Mortgage impact members, other departments, risk, compliance, financial performance, and the Credit Union overall. Requires independent judgment and initiative in identifying opportunities, addressing challenges, developing solutions, making sound decisions and providing thoughtful recommendations to senior leadership. Responsible for continually evaluating the department’s effectiveness and identifying opportunities to better serve members, improve efficiency, reduce unnecessary manual processes, leverage technology and automation, strengthen controls, and enhance the overall mortgage experience. Accountable for department results, including service, quality, productivity, compliance, employee performance, workflow and timely and accurate completion of mortgage lending activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Assumes responsibility for providing active leadership and operational oversight and accountability for the Mortgage Department, maintaining close engagement with departmental activities, performance and priorities.
  • Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of effective Mortgage Department policies, procedures, and planning.
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective and efficient completion of Mortgage functions.
  • Provides proactive leadership and accountability for departmental performance, taking initiative to drive operational effectiveness, service excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Assumes responsibility for ensuring that professional business relations exist with members, vendors, and trade professionals.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relations with Credit Union personnel and with management.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Attends and participates in meetings as required.
  • Completes reports and records.
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensures that work areas are clean, secure, and well‑maintained.
  • Stays informed regarding developments and changes in the mortgage field.
  • Assists with publicity, education, and promotion of the Credit Union. Cross‑sells services.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field or an equivalent combination of formal training and experience.
Required Knowledge :
  • Thorough knowledge of Credit Union mortgage products and applicable policies and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable federal and state mortgage and construction lending laws and regulations , including HMDA, fair lending, consumer protection, disclosure appraisal, flood insurance and flood determination requirements, and other applicable mortgage compliance requirements with sufficient understanding to effectively oversee departmental compliance and identify and address potential risks.
  • Thorough knowledge of underwriting, processing, closing, renewing, shipping, and funding functions for first lien, real estate, and home equity lending functions.
  • Familiarity with mortgage programs.
Experience Required:
  • At least five (5) years of progressive experience in mortgage lending related positions.
  • Minimum one (1) year supervisory experience.

  • Solid communication abilities.
  • Able to meet deadlines.
  • Able to use PC and basic business equipment.

Experience Preferred:
  • Eight (8) years of progressive experience in mortgage lending related positions.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience.

Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

Physical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)
