Job summary

UPMC Passavant is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the Heart and Vascular Institute at the McCandless location. This patient-facing role operates in a fast-paced specialty environment and suits MAs who work well independently and within a large care team.

The role offers weekday daylight hours (Monday–Friday) and opportunities to engage in meaningful patient interactions while leveraging MA skills across clinical and front office duties.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations and maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
• Obtain and process lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
• Complete necessary forms and schedule appointments.
• Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
• Prepare and manage patient charts.
• Perform front office tasks as needed.
• Prepare and clean patient rooms and equipment according to protocols.
• Maintain inventory and restock supplies.
• Organize patient flow and assist patients with various needs.
• Collect patient information, take vitals, and perform screenings.
• Relay instructions to patients and families.
• Answer calls and provide patient education.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic lab tests.
• Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information.
• Comply with regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health) along with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures
• Administer injectable medications and vaccines under supervision.
