Job summary

Center Line is seeking workers to perform diverse public works, recreation, construction and maintenance tasks. You will operate trucks and power equipment, assist in parks and facilities maintenance, and support street and sign projects.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and be able to perform heavy manual labor. CDL training with Air Brakes and Group B endorsements may be required within the first year of employment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of public works and recreation construction, maintenance, and repair activities.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying conditions with no weight restrictions.
• Familiar with streets and other locations within the City and able to follow instructions.
• Willing to attend training to obtain CDL with Air Brakes and Group B endorsement within the first year.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks for snow removal, hauling materials and tools.
• Operate chain saws, snowplow, loaders, tractors and other equipment.
• Perform various physical tasks such as breaking concrete and cleaning streets.
• Load dirt and other material into trucks; perform maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Repair and patch streets, sidewalks, signs; install and replace signs.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK

(These examples do not include all the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)

• Operate trucks for snow removal hauling asphalt, stone, sand,brick, leaves, tools, or other materials.
• Operate chain saw, brush chippers, snowplow, loaders, tractors, andother equipment.
• Perform any of a variety of tasks involving physical general strength and agility, such as breakingconcrete, asphalt streetsand sidewalks, diggingholes and trenches, cleaning and sweepingstreets, alleys, andgutters.
• Load dirt andother material intotrucks.
• Operate pumps, air compressors, lawn mowers, tree sprayer andother power-drivenequipment and tools.
• Perform varied landscapingand grounds maintenancerelated work.
• Cut, prune and spraytrees and shrubs.
• Assist in maintainingrecreation equipment andfacilities.
• Perform snow removalactivities.
• Assist in maintenanceof water distributionsystem.
• Place and removebarricades and flares.
• Make minor repairsand adjustments toequipment and facilities.
• Repairand patch streetsand alleys.
• Mix and pourconcrete.
• Install, repair, and replace, street andother signs.
• Remove paint from signs, prepare surfaces to be painted and operate paint sprayer.
• Perform minor maintenanceof picnic tablesand benches.
• Repair, paint, cleanand maintain facilitiesand equipment.
• Clean and maintain playfields, ball diamonds, and other recreationfacilities.
• Flood and maintainice rinks.
• Prep balldiamonds, install platesand bases andperform similar work.
• Prepare new parksites as required.
• Move, replace, andassemble office furniture.
• Set up recreationfacility rooms.
• Perform lubricating and otherminor service activities.
• Prepare and maintainrecords as required.
• Set up andremove bleachers, benches, and other facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must possess a HighSchool Diploma orGED.
• Must have knowledgeof work methodsand practices andprocedures involved inpublic works andrecreation construction, maintenance, and repairactivities.
• Must have knowledge of vehicle operation and power-driven equipment andtools.
• Must be ableto perform heavymanual labor undervarying work conditionswith no weightrestrictions.
• Must be familiarwith streets andother locations withinthe City.
• Must have theability to performthe essential functionsof the job.
• Must have mechanicalaptitude.
• Must have knowledgeof custodial, buildingand grounds maintenanceactivities.
• Must have knowledgeof methods, materialsand equipment usedin building andgrounds maintenance work.
• Must be familiarwith recreation equipmentand park facilities.
• Must have theability to successfullyperform a varietyof maintenance andrepair activities.
• Must have theability to understandand follow oraland written instructions.
• Must have the ability to work successfully with the public and with otheremployees.
• Must be willing to attend training to obtain a valid chauffeurs license (CDL) with Air Brakes, and Group B with an N endorsement within the first year of employment. Note: Training in a related cost is provided by the City.
