Southeast Polk Community School District in Des Moines, Iowa seeks a Human Resources/Payroll Specialist to serve as an operational liaison between HR and Business Services, ensuring accurate payroll processing and compliant record keeping. Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate degree or certificate in HR/Business preferred.
• PHR/SHRM-CP or similar certification preferred.
• Minimum of three years of accounting, payroll, and/or HR experience; five years preferred.
• Knowledge of onboarding documents (I-9, W-4) and federal/state labor laws (FMLA, ADA, FLSA).
• Experience with HRIS/ERP and reporting; strong data accuracy.
• Proficiency in MS Office and Google Workspace.
• Strong accuracy, organization, data entry, and confidentiality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate professionally.

Responsabilités

• Enter new pay rates and maintain pay history in the system.
• Conduct pre-payroll audits for accuracy and separation of duties.
• Maintain position control and ensure hires are linked to vacancies.
• Maintain up-to-date job descriptions for active positions.
• Manage leaves of absence (FMLA, ADA) and confidential medical files.
• Coordinate with payroll on leave balances and wage adjustments.
• Prepare employment verification documents for external entities.
• Assist with unemployment claims and annual audit data gathering.
• Provide backup support across HR and Business Services; test automated workflows.
