Job summary

Family Security Credit Union is seeking a Head Teller to oversee daily teller activities, greet members, process deposits and withdrawals, balance cash drawers, and supervise vault operations. You will direct staff and coordinate resources to meet member demand while maintaining security and accuracy.

You will ensure staff are knowledgeable about credit union products, policies, and procedures, cross-sell services, handle loan payments, and support training to maintain high service standards.

Qualifications

  • One year of cashier or teller experience within the past five years.
  • Cash drawer balancing experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Basic PC knowledge with Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and serve members with courteous, accurate transactions.
  • Receive deposits, verify endorsements, cash checks, and process withdrawals.
  • Process mail and postings; prepare items for branch shipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of products, services, policies, and robbery procedures.
  • Promote and cross-sell credit union products and services.
  • Balance cash drawer and research discrepancies with Branch Manager.
  • Oversee teller station supplies and vault activities.

Job description

To assist members and perform transactional duties by receiving or paying out funds with a high degree of accuracy while maintaining exceptional member service standards as set by Family Security Credit Union. Maintain accurate transactional records, providing basic cash receipt and payment services in accordance with credit union policies and procedures. To oversee the daily activities of tellers, to direct and schedule resources needed to meet the demands of members, and to handle vault activities.

Head Teller Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Greet and welcome members to the credit union in a courteous, professional and timely manner, providing prompt, accurate, and efficient member transactions.
  • Receive checks and cash for deposit to accounts, verify amounts, and examine checks for proper endorsement.
  • Cash checks and process withdrawals after verification of member balances.
  • Process all mail which includes posting payments and deposits; sort and prepare items for branch shipment when applicable.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all credit union products and services that are handled or promoted by tellers. Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all related policies and procedures, rules and regulations, including robbery procedures.
  • Promote, explain, and cross-sell all credit union products and services.
  • Receive and process loan payments.
  • Balance cash drawer, research and resolve discrepancies and report any discrepancies to the Branch Manager.
  • Ensure the teller station is properly stocked with supplies to perform daily duties.
  • Check night depository and record proper information to process transactions according to credit union procedures.
  • Responsible for the teller operations area by scheduling hours, assigning work, answering questions, and solving problems.
  • Assist Manager in addressing personnel related issues, including the issuing of verbal and written warnings to subordinates.
  • Assist in teller operations by helping with complex transactions and sensitive member relation problems.
  • Support tellers by assisting with continued training to include explaining policies and procedures.
  • Assists members with opening and closing accounts, answers questions about products and services, resolves problems within authority, and refers problems outside authority to management along with recommendations.
  • Interviews loan applicants to obtain necessary information concerning their loan needs, earnings, and financial condition and inputs obtained information in system. If approved, completes necessary loan paperwork to close out the process.
  • Responsible for providing assistance with IRA questions and transactions.
  • Serve as vault teller for the assigned branch, to include ordering cash from the Federal Reserve, verifying cash received, filling teller cash orders, maintaining vault security, and balancing vault cash nightly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Head Teller Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • One year of cashier or teller experience (experience must be within the past 5 years)
  • Cash drawer balancing experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Intermediate PC knowledge with basic Microsoft Office skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Up to two years of supervisory experience or proven supervisory abilities in the financial industry; up to three years supervisory experience if not within the financial industry
  • Three years of cashier or teller experience (experience must be within the past five years)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills while using a pleasant tone and common conversational courtesies
  • Good interpersonal skills to include being courteous, diplomatic, and tactful
  • Ability to handle some daily lifting of boxed or bagged coins (weight will vary)
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask when necessary
  • Ability to motivate and influence others in their daily job duties
  • Familiar with Federal Regulations related to processing financial transactions, IRA transactions, and opening new accounts
Head Teller Expectations
  • Act as positive role model for teller staff by demonstrating a hands-on approach to management.
  • Establish and maintain effective employee relations. Resolve employee relation issues.
  • Oversee proper availability of cash, gift cards, and other monetary instruments for the assigned branch.
  • Ensure cleanliness and appearance of the teller area.
