Job summary

Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. seeks a Teacher for Head Start Centers to provide developmentally appropriate preschool instruction in a 10-month program. Responsibilities include planning lessons, conducting assessments, and engaging families in readiness activities.

The ideal candidate holds an Associate degree and CDA or equivalent, with knowledge of early childhood development and strong communication skills. A valid driver's license and background check are required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, CDA or equivalent.
• Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum.
• Ability to assess children’s strengths, needs, interests, and progress.
• Effective communication, writing, organizational, and basic computer skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Written and verbal communication skills, relate well with people, and support the needs of low-income families.
• Valid Driver’s License with safe driving record or State issued ID.
• Must pass required background and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that meet children’s needs, interests, learning styles, and individual goals.
• Complete developmental assessments and maintain required anecdotal records for enrolled children.
• Use positive guidance strategies to support children’s confidence, self-esteem, and social-emotional development.
• Conduct required home visits and parent-teacher conferences, sharing child progress with families.
• Encourage family engagement in school readiness activities and parent volunteer opportunities.
• Maintain confidentiality, ethical conduct, professionalism, and regular attendance.
• Attend required training, in-services, meetings, and support agency/program policies and procedures.
• Complete required reports and data entry according to program timelines and policies.
• Maintain required credentials, confidentiality, ethical conduct, and professionalism in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and program policies.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
